The EnMAP Ground Segmentis developed and operated by the German Aerospace Center (DLR). It is composed of three systems, the Mission Operation Segment (MOS)controlling satellite and instrument, the Payload Ground Segment (PGS)responsible for the whole process of payload data handling, and the Processor and Calibration/Validation Segment (PCV)developing the Instrument Processing System, calibrating the sensor and validating the data products.
The Mission Operations Segment(MOS)is operated by DLR’s German Space Operations Center with its multi-mission Control Center in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany and its main S-Band Telemetry/Telecommand-Station in Weilheim, Germany. The Mission Operations Segment communicates with the satellite and the Hyperspectral Imager (HSI) by generating and sending telecommands to the spacecraft and receiving telemetry from it.
An important task of MOS is Mission Planning arranging user requests and planned activities in a conflict-free timeline that does not violate any resource constraints. The Mission Planning System (MPS) takes satellite attitude and position information input from the Flight Dynamics System (FDS). FDS is responsible for orbit determination and orbit prediction, maneuver planning and determination of spacecraft attitude. Further input for MPS comes from the PGS as planning requests for payload activities, and the MOS team as operations-related information.

The Payload Ground Segment (PGS)is operated by DLR’s German Remote Sensing Data Center (DLR-DFD) with its multi-mission infrastructures located in Oberpfaffenhofen and Neustrelitz. PGS receives satellite HSI sensor data via X-band downlink at the Neustrelitz Ground Station hosting three 7.3m antenna systems. The EnMAP Processing System HSI is an operational processor installed also at the Neustrelitz ground station. It is dedicated to generate Level 0, Level 1, Level 2a, and Level 2b image data products on an operational basis.
PGS will be responsible for all image data request work-flow handling related to user orders. Such orders will be received via a web-based user portal enabling the reception of orders for future products/acquisitions and of catalogue orders for already existing products. PGS will disseminate products to users on media and via FTP, and provide order desk and help desk functions to the users. The multi-mission Data and Information Management System (DIMS) is used for archiving and cataloguing, retrieving, processing and disseminating image data and related products.

The Processor and Calibration/Validation Segment (PCV)is operated by DLR’s Remote Sensing Technology Institute (DLR-MF) supporting the mission with its expertise and dedicated subsystems located in Oberpfaffenhofen and Berlin-Adlershof. PCV is responsible for the development of the the EnMAP-specific processors (L0 – L2b) installed in Neustrelitz ground station. It further controls the onboard spectral and radiometric calibration, the validation / ground calibration and the monitoring of the HSI. Onboard spectral and radiometric calibration subsystem makes use of dark current, internal sources (LED or lamp) and sun light measurements resulting in the update of the calibration tables.
The validation / ground calibration sub-system performs geometric, radiometric and spectral validation, as well as geometric calibration based on on-ground measurements. Instrument monitoring sub-system derives and investigates the long term behavior of the HSI, based on house-keeping telemetry, calibration data, level 0 and 1 measurement data.
