Objective & Scope:

In preparation of the application of EnMap data by Universities, the creation of a hyperspectral remote-sensing database is required. Furthermore, it is necessary to support the scientific activities such as acquisition of in-situ- and laboratory measurements and provide field instruments in order to help analysing spaceborne data. On a mid- and long term basis the development of methods and products for environmental issues and therefore the status of German Universities in the community will be enhanced. These steps would set the basis for an optimal use of the EnMap Mission. With an airborne sensor, hyperspectral data have been collected for 18 Universities and further measurements have been supervised. Future progress will be well documented with workshops and reports.

Expertise:

In the past, research of several German Universities have been focused on hyperspectral remote-sensing based on airborne campaigns with sensors provided by the German Aerospace Centre at Remote Sensing Data Centre (DLR-DFD). On the basis of the acquired datasets, methods were developed that represent the current state-of-the-art research and contribute to environmental knowledge. In this project, also other Universities with less experience in the hyperspectral remote-sensing sector should be given the chance to develop a profound knowledge on the subject. This would create and enlarge a widespread community for a meaningful application of hyperspectral EnMap data in Germany.

Project period:

07/01/2009 until 03/28/2010

Period for airborne campaign:

07/20/2009 until 09/04/2009
