The New Valley Project, specifically Sharq El Owainat, is a desert development and irrigation project in southwestern Egypt that uses fossil groundwater from the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer to transform desert land into arable land. Blue colors in the image show vital vegetation inside the center pivot systems. In the upper quarter of the image the SWIR bands of EnMAP detected a fire burning inside one irrigation circle.
