Iceland, with more than 30 active volcanic systems, is the largest and most active volcanic region in Europe. On the sparsely populated Reykjanes Peninsula, a volcanic eruption has occurred on July 16 near Grindavik on the Sundhnúkur crater row. It is is the ninth volcanic event in Iceland since the end of 2023. The night-time EnMAP image acquired on the same day reveals lava flowing from a fissure in the ground.
