Welcome to EnMAP
The German Spaceborne Imaging Spectrometer Mission
The Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program (EnMAP) is a German hyperspectral satellite mission that monitors and characterizes Earth’s environment on a global scale. EnMAP measures geochemical, biochemical and biophysical variables providing information on the status and evolution of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. More information about the main objectives and the status can be found on the mission page.
The planned schedule of upcoming priority acquisitions is available in the Foreground Mission

EnMAP’s third anniversary - it is getting more colourful!
published on May 06, 2025On April 1st 2025, the EnMAP satellite successfully marked its third year in orbit and continues to provide high-quality hyperspectral data to an ever-growing global user community. EnMAP’s sensors and data quality remain stable, effectively meeting the mission’s requirements and exceeding the expectations of the scientific community. The results based upon EnMAP acquisitions presented at the major remote sensing conferences and workshops provide impressive examples of the potential of hyperspectral data for Earth sciences. -
Image of the month April 2025 -- New Valley Project, Sharq El Owainat, Egypt
published on April 30, 2025We've launched a new "Image of the Month" series. A new image will be selected and published every month in the Image Gallery.
The New Valley Project, specifically Sharq El Owainat, is a desert development and irrigation project in southwestern Egypt that uses fossil groundwater from the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer to transform desert land into arable land. Blue colors in the image show vital vegetation inside the center pivot systems. In the upper quarter of the image the SWIR bands of EnMAP detected a fire burning inside one irrigation circle.

EnMAP Image Featured in Helmholtz Imaging Film!
published on March 11, 2025An EnMAP image from the deserts of Iran, previously submitted to the Helmholtz Image Competition, has been selected for inclusion in the Helmholtz Imaging film. Chosen from submissions between 2021 and 2024, the EnMAP image of Siah-Kuh is one of 17 featured in the film. This strikingly colorful image, captured by EnMAP’s highly sensitive sensors, reveals an extraordinary geologic formation shaped by volcanic and sedimentary processes. Beyond its scientific value, this region holds historical significance as a former royal hunting ground and a resting place for caravans. Today, it is a protected national park (Siah-Kuh), where nature and history converge.
